Chandigarh, October 3 (Gurjit Billa):- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a writ petition filed by C-2 Jagroop Singh and others seeking promotion to the post of Head Constable in the Punjab Police.

While pronouncing the judgment, the court of Hon’ble Justice Namit Kumar directed the concerned department to review the petitioners’ claims within four months.

The petitioners had challenged the order dated October 10, 2013, under which their demand for promotion on the basis of seniority had been rejected. They had sought to be appointed as Head Constables with retrospective effect, on the same dates as their juniors.

After hearing the arguments of the government side and the petitioners’ counsel, GPS Ball, the High Court directed the department to reconsider the petitioners’ claims in light of Rule 13.21 of the Punjab Police Rules and the old records. The court’s decision has raised fresh hopes of justice among the police personnel.
