Lalru/Dera Bassi, 12 September:- The fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’, being organised by the Punjab Government with the objective of connecting the youth with sports, promoting a sports culture and providing better opportunities to emerging sporting talents, commenced with a grand opening in Dera Bassi and Lalru today.
Dera Bassi MLA S. Kuljit Singh Randhawa inaugurated the block-level sports competitions at Government College Dera Bassi and Lalru Sports Stadium and met the players to encourage them.
During these sports competitions, players participated in various sports, including athletics, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, football and cricket, with full enthusiasm, zeal and sportsmanship. The enthusiasm of the players on the sports grounds and the encouragement from the spectators further added to the vibrant atmosphere of the sports festival.
MLA Randhawa said that the Punjab Government is continuously undertaking initiatives to promote sports in the state and connect the youth with sports by keeping them away from drugs. He said that ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ is providing an important platform for the youth to showcase their sporting talent and move forward.
The block-level sports competitions being organised at Government College Dera Bassi, Lalru Sports Stadium and Sukhmani International School will continue for three days, with a large number of players participating in them.
He said that the teams winning at the block level will participate in the district-level competitions in the next stage. The teams winning at the district level will get an opportunity to participate in the state-level competitions. The winning teams/players at the state level will be awarded prize money by the government. The first-place winner will receive prize money of Rs 10,000, the second-place winner Rs 7,000 and the third-place winner Rs 5,000.
