Hansi, October 1:- Superintendent of Police Hansi Vinod Kumar has issued an important advisory to the general public, advising them on prevention of cyber fraud and immediate action in case of fraud. He said that time is the most important factor in cyber fraud. The initial period after the fraud, known as the ‘Golden Hour’, is crucial, and prompt action during this period can help prevent the defrauded amount from being transferred further.

The Superintendent of Police said that cyber fraudsters often rapidly transfer the money to different bank accounts after withdrawing it from the victim’s account. In such a situation, if the victim delays reporting the fraud after becoming aware of it, the possibility of the money reaching multiple accounts further increases. Therefore, as soon as a cyber fraud is detected, it is essential to take immediate action without any hesitation or waiting.

Take These Steps Immediately After Fraud

Call 1930 immediately.

As soon as cyber fraud is detected, immediately report it to the National Cyber Helpline number 1930.

Register a complaint on NCRP.

Register an online complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal so that necessary action can be initiated in the matter.

Inform the bank immediately.

If the defrauded amount has been withdrawn from a bank account, immediately inform the concerned bank/financial institution as well.

Preserve the evidence.

Preserve mobile numbers, messages, screenshots, bank transaction details, UPI IDs, links or any other available digital evidence related to the fraud and provide them to the police.

Action During the ‘Golden Hour’ Can Help Stop the Money

Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said that every minute is important in cases of cybercrime. The longer the defrauded amount remains within the banking system, the greater the scope for efforts to stop or freeze it in the concerned accounts. Therefore, citizens should not remain silent due to embarrassment or fear after being defrauded, but should immediately call 1930 and provide information about the incident.

He appealed to the general public not to wait in case of cyber fraud and not to waste time trying to recover the money on their own. They should lodge a complaint immediately, as timely information can play an important role in preventing the defrauded amount from being transferred further.
