Karnal, October 24 (Praveen Walia):- Doctors generally treat patients and advise them to lead healthy lives, but renowned Karnal-based orthopaedic specialist Dr. Balveer Singh Virk has set an inspiring example for others by transforming his own lifestyle. Once concerned about increasing weight and health issues such as high blood sugar and blood pressure, Dr. Virk incorporated running and regular exercise into his daily routine. Even after crossing the age of 50, his enthusiasm continues to inspire young people to stay fit and healthy.

Over the past four years, Dr. Virk has participated in 11 full marathons and 125 mini-marathons organised across four countries and more than a dozen major cities in India. Recently, he completed a 42-kilometre marathon in Chicago, USA, bringing pride to the Indian Tricolour. Around 55,000 participants took part in the Chicago marathon. During the visit, he also had the opportunity to see the city’s historic landmarks. Rahul Chaudhary of Karnal also participated in the marathon alongside him.

Dr. Virk said that about five years ago, he began gaining weight, while lifestyle-related problems involving blood sugar and blood pressure prompted him to take his health more seriously. He then resolved to improve his daily routine and increase his physical activity. He started running at Karnal’s Karn Stadium. During this period, his friend and colleague Pravesh Gaba also joined him. Gradually, the effort developed into a group, and today around 35 people regularly participate in these activities with him.

Dr. Virk has continued his fitness journey by participating in marathons held in various countries, including the United States, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom, as well as in Indian cities such as Kolkata, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and Bengaluru. He believes that age is no barrier to adopting a healthy lifestyle. Everyone should set aside at least one hour a day for physical activity.

He said that over the past four years, he has changed his lifestyle by giving up junk food and certain unhealthy eating habits. According to him, regular exercise, a balanced diet and a disciplined daily routine play an important role in maintaining good health. People should continue exercising regularly during winter as well, according to their individual capacity. Dr. Virk believes that change can begin at any age. When people take steps to become more conscious of their health, those very steps can become an inspiration for others.
