Longowal/Sunam, October 3:- Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that the all-round development of Longowal is his top priority and that everyone willing to work for the betterment of the city, rising above political differences and factionalism, is welcome. He said that with the unity and cooperation of the people, development works in Longowal would be taken forward at double and triple the pace in the coming period.

The Cabinet Minister was addressing a gathering in Longowal today on the occasion of Ward No. 4 Councillor Gurpal Singh Pali, along with his supporters and families, joining the Aam Aadmi Party. Welcoming all those who joined the party, he assured them that they would be given full honour and respect in the party.

Aman Arora said that the people of Longowal, the sacred land of 52 martyrs, have always given importance to mutual harmony and public welfare. He said that putting aside old political differences and coming together for the development of the city and its wards is a commendable initiative. On the occasion, he also appreciated the role played by Satnam Singh, Yadvinder Singh, Balwinder Singh and other associates in promoting unity.

The Cabinet Minister said that politics centred on the needs of the people and the development of the area can alone deliver meaningful results. He said that the series of development works already undertaken in Longowal would be taken forward with greater speed and joint efforts for the betterment of the city would be encouraged. He called upon all leaders and workers to remain in continuous contact with the people and raise their issues on a priority basis.

Talking to journalists on the issue of drugs and responding to statements made by opposition parties, Aman Arora said that the old political parties should also answer the people for the role they played during their respective tenures. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh had taken an oath on the Gutka Sahib and promised to eradicate drugs, but the results of his tenure are before the people.

Aman Arora alleged that the spread of ‘chitta’ took place in Punjab during the tenure of the SAD-BJP coalition government from 2007 to 2017 and that instead of curbing drugs, narcotics were even being sold in government vehicles. He questioned the BJP about what role it played in curbing the problem despite being part of the government at that time. He said that people now understand the reality of political statements and promises made by announcing dates.

Responding to a question about the internal situation in the Congress, the Cabinet Minister said that statements by the party leaders themselves were exposing their differences with one another. He remarked that in the Congress, the energy of the leader holding office is consumed in saving his chair, while other leaders continue making efforts to remove him. On the occasion, he also extended his greetings to his Assembly colleague and former Olympian, Pargat Singh.

On the release of prisoners, Aman Arora said that the issue should be considered from a humanitarian perspective. He said that whether they are Bandi Singhs or other prisoners, those who have completed their prescribed sentences should be released at the earliest.

Regarding the 2027 Assembly elections, Aman Arora said that the enthusiasm among people at today’s gathering and the trend of a large number of people joining the party was a ‘trailer’ of the coming elections. He said that even at this stage of the government’s tenure, the spontaneous joining of the Aam Aadmi Party by people reflected their confidence in the Punjab government’s pro-people policies and work. He said that the love and support being extended by the people had further increased his responsibility towards public service and development, which he would fulfil with full commitment.
