Navanshahr, September 30:- A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held today at the District Administrative Complex under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh. During the meeting, various important issues related to road safety were reviewed in detail, and the concerned departments were directed to ensure necessary action to prevent road accidents and further improve the traffic system.

The meeting reviewed compliance with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. In addition, issues related to the traffic system in the district were discussed, including the traffic light at Dr. Ambedkar Chowk, installation of light poles on the Navanshahr-bound stretch of the Chandigarh-Phagwara road, traffic arrangements at the entry and exit points of Langroa and Mahalon, and work related to traffic furniture.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress of e-DAR and directed the officers to update data related to road accident cases on time and take action through mutual coordination. The progress of the Rah-Veer Scheme and Farishtey Scheme was also reviewed, with emphasis on making the arrangements for providing timely assistance to road accident victims more effective.

The PM-Rahat Scheme was also reviewed. In addition, detailed discussions were held on compliance with helmet rules, the status of challans, seizure action related to LED/bright white lights and cases of driving in the wrong lane. The Deputy Commissioner directed that action be ensured against those violating traffic rules as per the rules.

Hit-and-run cases were also reviewed, and the identification of accident-prone black spots in the district and proposals for their improvement were discussed.

In addition, the safety arrangements for school vehicles under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, pedestrian safety and cases of injuries and deaths involving pedestrians during the previous month were also reviewed.

Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh said that road safety is a collective responsibility and that the goal of reducing road accidents and ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property can be achieved only through better coordination among various departments.
