Nawan Shehar, September 30:- On the call of the CPI (M) Tehsil Nawan Shehar Committee, party workers and leaders today gathered in large numbers along with people from villages of the area to submit a memorandum to Dr. Nachhattar Pal, the local constituency MLA, addressed to the Chief Minister of Punjab, regarding the pressing demands of the people. The programme was organised as part of the call given by the Punjab State Committee of the CPI (M) to submit memoranda regarding people’s pressing demands to different MLAs of all 117 Assembly constituencies across Punjab.
District Secretary Comrade Charanjit Singh Daulatpur said on the occasion that the demands included repealing the four Labour Codes implemented by the Central Government, restoring the MGNREGA law, repealing the VBG Ram Ji Act, waiving the loans of all farmers and labourers, enacting a law to implement MSP on all crops, and providing a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to farmers above 60 years of age, women, widows, elderly persons and persons with disabilities. He said there was also a need for a stringent law to stop the delivery of drugs to people’s doorsteps, improve the poor law and order situation, and refrain from signing free trade agreements with the United States or other countries while keeping the interests of the people of the country in mind. Other demands included transferring Chandigarh to Punjab and controlling rising inflation.
Apart from these demands, information was also provided about the problems being faced by people in the Assembly constituency. The Rahon-Mattewara road, which has been completely damaged due to overloaded tippers and tractor-trailers, should be reconstructed at the earliest, as farmers will face difficulties during the coming paddy and sugarcane seasons. The Punjab Government was also urged to issue a notification at the earliest to waive the remaining loans of societies operating through their own funds.
It was also demanded that overloaded tippers involved in illegal mining be stopped immediately, and that relief be provided to poor people facing high electricity bills by immediately waiving the electricity bills of their houses.
