Nawanshahr, August 15: On the occasion of Independence Day, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training, Higher Education and Languages, School Education, Information and Public Relations, and Local Government Harjot Singh Bains visited Khatkar Kalan village and paid obeisance at the memorials dedicated to Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh and his father S. Kishan Singh. He paid floral tributes at the statue of Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh.
MLA Banga Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, SSP Tushar Gupta, Vice Chairman Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Kuljit Sarhal, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the Punjab Government is committed to fulfilling the dreams of the great martyrs.
He said that after becoming Chief Minister, Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann took oath of office at the ancestral village of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh, Khatkar Kalan. Besides, as an important decision, the Punjab Government installed portraits of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji and the architect of the Indian Constitution, Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Ji, in government offices.
Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains further said that a Heritage Complex is being constructed at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, at a cost of ?51.70 crore.
He said that under the project, facilities including a digital library, auditorium, guest house, tourist facilitation centre, courtroom, digital fountain, four memorial gates and parking will be developed. He said the prestigious project is nearing completion.
The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government is committed to giving full honour and respect to the martyrs and their families. He said that it is because of the sacrifices of the martyrs that people are able to enjoy the fruits of freedom today.
He called upon everyone to work together for the progress of the country and always remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
The Cabinet Minister also appealed to the people to support the government in the fight against drugs and other social evils, so that, as the inheritors of the legacy of the martyrs, everyone can collectively build a strong and prosperous Punjab.
