Patiala, October 4 (Manpreet Singh):- Taking serious note of the alleged conspiratorial silence maintained regarding farmers’ demands, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) has announced a gherao of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners in the districts on October 5, 2026. In this regard, a meeting was held today at Dhanthal Sahib Gurdwara under the leadership of Jagdeep Singh Chhanna, in which district and block-level leaders participated. General Secretary Sukhminder Singh, while providing information, said that instead of accepting the demands, the Modi government at the Centre and the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab are allowing time to pass. He said that while the Modi government is attacking the rights of working people by not enacting a law guaranteeing MSP and by bringing in the Electricity Bill, Seed Bill and the scheme in place of MGNREGA, it is also suppressing the people fighting for their rights by implementing black laws and labour codes. At the same time, the Punjab government has maintained silence on providing compensation for crop losses and floods, granting ownership rights to occupants, waiving loans and framing an agricultural policy. It is also trying to suppress people through force by establishing a police state.

The organisation had earlier launched a struggle by holding a 16-day permanent protest, and now a large mobilisation is being organised to gherao the Patiala DC office on October 5. The organisation demanded that the government hold talks and resolve the farmers’ demands. It also demanded that smooth procurement of paddy be guaranteed and steps be taken for proper disposal of paddy straw.

District Treasurer Jagmel Singh Gajewas, Organisation Secretary Balraj Joshi, Block President Americ Singh Ghagga, Prem Lalochi, Bharbhur Singh Gajewas, Hardeep Singh Drauli, Jaswinder Singh Saluwal, Avtar Singh Phagganmajra, Davinder Singh Seel, Avtar Singh Burar and Varinder Singh Bhola, besides other leaders, were present at today’s meeting.
