Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 12 September:- With the objective of restoring Punjab’s position as a leading state in the field of sports and encouraging people of all age groups, including the youth, to participate in sports, the block-level sports competitions under ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian-2026’ Season-4, being organised by the Punjab Government, commenced in Mohali today with great enthusiasm.
Mohali MLA S. Kulwant Singh formally inaugurated the block-level sports competitions, met the players and encouraged them. He said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working to provide the necessary sports infrastructure, facilities and sports equipment in the state.
S. Kulwant Singh said, “A major boost is being given to sports to make Punjab vibrant and strong again.” He said that ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ is not merely a sports competition, but a major initiative to connect people of every age group with sports and keep the youth away from drugs.
He said that this time, players ranging from under-14 to those above 70 years of age are participating in these games in large numbers. Besides, cricket, one of the most popular sports among the people, has been included in ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ for the first time, which will further increase public participation in the games.
The MLA said that sports can not only motivate the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle but also channel their energy in a constructive direction. He said that the Punjab Government aims to strengthen the sports culture in every village and city of Punjab so that the state can once again become a drug-free, healthy, prosperous and vibrant Punjab.
On the occasion, District Sports Officer Umeshvari Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation S. Rajinder Prasad Sharma, Deputy Mayor S. Harpal Singh Channa, S. Jaspal Singh Mattour and S. Akwinder Singh Gosal, among other dignitaries, were present.
