Zirakpur (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar), October 3:- An awareness camp was organised yesterday in Zirakpur under the ‘Sade Bazurg Sada Maan’ campaign being run by the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development, Punjab, for the welfare of senior citizens under the State Action Plan 2026-27.
Members of the Senior Citizen Association, along with municipal councillors from the area, participated enthusiastically in the camp. Shri Gurpreet Singh Virk, President of Zirakpur Municipal Council, attended the event as the chief guest.
On the occasion, Advocate Aarti Sharma shared detailed information regarding the ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007’. She apprised senior citizens of the rights available to them under the Act, provisions for their protection and legal assistance, and appealed to them to remain aware of their rights.
During the camp, District Social Security Officer, Mohali, Smt. Navdeep Kaur said that a special medical camp would be organised on October 9, 2026, at Gurdwara Sahib Bishanpura, MC Road, Zirakpur, with the objective of providing healthcare facilities to senior citizens. She said that free health check-ups and other necessary healthcare facilities would be provided to senior citizens during the camp.
She appealed to senior citizens to make maximum use of the special medical camp and also inform their family members and other elderly people about it.
During the camp, information was also shared regarding various welfare provisions related to senior citizens and the government facilities available to them.
