Una, April 14 – On the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, an awareness and free health camp was organized at the Guru Ravidas Temple complex in Santoshgarh. This awareness camp was held under the joint aegis of the Himachal Pradesh State Scheduled Castes Commission (Una) and the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Welfare Society (Santoshgarh). Former Minister and Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Scheduled Castes Commission, Kuldeep Dhiman, graced the event with his presence.
During the program, former MLA of Una, Satpal Singh Raizada, was present as a special guest.
Kuldeep Dhiman, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Scheduled Castes Commission, paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar located at Ambedkar Chowk and walked on foot to reach the venue of the program.
Mr. Dhiman stated that the primary objective of the camp was to raise awareness among people belonging to the Scheduled Castes category regarding various government welfare and social security schemes. He added that the Commission is playing a pivotal role in sensitizing marginalized sections of society across the state about their rights, entitlements, and opportunities through such camps.
Shedding light on the life and thoughts of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Kuldeep Dhiman remarked that his life stands as a symbol of struggle, equality, and social justice. He noted that Dr. Ambedkar made significant contributions toward eradicating untouchability and discrimination from society, and gave the clarion call: "Educate, Agitate, Organize"—a message that remains highly relevant to this day. Furthermore, he announced that Ward Nos. 4 and 5 of Santoshgarh would be renamed 'Ambedkar Nagar.'
Speaking on the occasion, former Una MLA Satpal Singh Raizada stated that Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar played a crucial role in the country's struggle for independence, in the task of nation-building, and in uniting all sections of society. He further announced that statues of the Constitution's architect, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, would be installed at a suitable location outside the Court complex and at Santoshgarh Chowk. During the camp, Commission members—Advocates Vijay Dogra, Digvijay Malhotra, and Shalini Jamwal—provided valuable information aimed at raising awareness among members of the Scheduled Caste community regarding their rights, available facilities, and opportunities.
