Patiala, October 5 (Manpreet Singh):- Unemployed Upvaids who have been waiting for government recruitment for the past 11 years after completing their Upvaid diploma have now announced a struggle against the government. The Punjab Unemployed Upvaid Union has issued an ultimatum to hold a massive indefinite protest outside the Health Minister’s residence on October 11 in protest against the failure of the Health Department to conduct recruitment.
The union has also raised the issue that the Health Minister had scheduled a panel meeting with the union on October 1 and had also been given a written letter regarding the meeting. However, according to the union, on October 1 the Health Minister backed out of the meeting and refused to meet the union. The union expressed its displeasure over not being given a meeting.
On this occasion, state president Harvinder Singh Thuhi, vice president Ravinder Singh and Fazilka district president Avi Kumar said that for the past 11 years, young people have been holding their diplomas in their hands and waiting for successive governments, but not a single fresh recruitment of Upvaids has been made so far. They demanded that the government assess the vacant posts and immediately issue a recruitment advertisement.
The leaders made it clear that if no concrete decision is taken regarding recruitment, the union will intensify its struggle to secure its rights. Rampi Rani, Jyoti Rani, Suman, Deepak, Gurdeep Singh, Ramanpreet and others were also present on the occasion.
