Hoshiarpur – Anil Kumar, Associate Professor in the Department of History, DAV College Hoshiarpur, has stressed on the need to increase the daily attendance for teachers and students in higher education institutions in Punjab. He said that many colleges affiliated to Panjab University Chandigarh are currently working on a framework of 5.5 hours of academic attendance, which is insufficient for the full development of students.
Professor Anil Kumar said, “Due to the restriction of 5.5 hours, teachers have to explain the syllabus in a hurry. This not only affects the quality of the lesson, but also students do not get proper time for clearing their doubts, discussions, lab work, projects or collaborative activities.”
He further said that if the daily attendance is increased to at least 7 hours, teachers will be able to teach in an interactive and analytical manner. This will give students ample time which will be beneficial for their internal tests, experiments, project work, other activities and preparation for competitive exams.
Professor Anil Kumar said, “This amendment is the need of the hour. The quality of education with a 7-hour routine can ruin the future of students.”
His point has now become a topic of discussion in the education sector of Punjab and many academicians have called it beneficial and the need of the hour.
