Two-day training program started to provide legal services to persons with mental illness and intellectual disability

Una, 20 December- As per the instructions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), a two-day training program was started on Friday in the seminar hall of District Legal Services Authority, Una to provide legal services to persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. Retired District and Sessions Judge OP Sharma, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Anita Sharma, Una Panel Advocates and PLVs participated in the training program.

Una, 20 December- As per the instructions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), a two-day training program was started on Friday in the seminar hall of District Legal Services Authority, Una to provide legal services to persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. Retired District and Sessions Judge OP Sharma, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Anita Sharma, Una Panel Advocates and PLVs participated in the training program.
During this, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Anita Sharma said that the main objective of legal aid services is to have access to justice for all. Persons with disabilities, especially those suffering from mental illness and other obstacles like mental retardation, are generally sidelined and neglected by the society. Therefore, the National Legal Services Authority Act 2015 had formulated a scheme to provide effective legal services to mentally ill and disabled people.
He said that mentally ill and disabled persons are entitled to all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Promoting, protecting and ensuring the full and equal enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedom of these persons will be the prime concern of the institution as well as the Legal Services Authority.
Under this, a legal services unit has been formed, which includes DLSA Secretary, retired District and Sessions Judge, panel advocates and PLVs. Apart from this, the Secretary of DLSA informed that this training program will also be organized on 21 December from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.
On this occasion, Dr Navdeep Joshi from Regional Hospital Una, Advocate District Court Una Suresh Airy were also present.
