Mandi- A landslide incident due to cloudburst in remote village Sharmani of Ghatu panchayat in Nirmand sub-division of Kullu district has caused major destruction and loss of life in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to initial reports, the incident took place around 2:00 am. During this time, the residents of the village were sleeping, due to which they had very little time to get out. A house was completely buried under the debris, from where three persons have been rescued. However, one person is still missing. Four persons have died in this incident.
Confirming the incident, SDM Nirmand Manmohan Singh said, “The village has suffered heavy damage due to the landslide. Rescue operations are underway with the help of local administration, police and disaster response teams.”
Singh confirmed the recovery of one body, rescue of three victims and ongoing rescue operations to search for the missing person. Authorities have urged residents of nearby areas to remain on high alert, as unstable weather continues to prevail in the region.
