On the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal flagged off the students of Sainik Institute of Management Technology at the District Administrative Complex to make people more aware and educated about Flag Day and to collect financial contributions in honor of the flag. He said that Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated all over the country on December 7. But due to the government holidays on December 6 and 7, this time Flag Day is being celebrated on December 5.
The Deputy Commissioner said that we should all be proud of our brave soldiers who, despite being residents of different states of the country and speaking different languages, come together and are ready to die for the protection of the country. He said that on this day, we express our solidarity with all the security forces and show our respect towards them by wearing the symbol of the flag on our collars.
He appealed to all the district residents to give financial support to the Flag Day Fund with open hearts so that maximum financial help can be provided to the soldiers, ex-servicemen, brave women and their dependents in times of need. He said that it is a matter of pride for us that Hoshiarpur district is at the forefront of making sacrifices in the entire country.
On this occasion, Sainik Sewava Welfare Officer Wing Commander (Retd.) Gurpreet Singh said that the amount collected is spent on the welfare schemes implemented by the Central and State Governments and for the serving soldiers, their widows, and disabled soldiers.
He said that as per the notification of the Government of India, the amount donated for Armed Forces Flag Day is exempt from tax. Superintendent Baljit Kaur, Satish Singh Bagga, Baldev Singh, Naresh Kumar and trainees of Sainik Pre-Recruitment Training were also present on the occasion.
