Chandigarh, August 20- Haryana Environment and Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh has directed the officials to implement Van Mitra Yojana more effectively to make plantation a people's movement. He said that now Van Mitra will be able to dig trenches not only on private land but also on the land of the Forest Department and do plantation.
The Minister gave these instructions while chairing a review meeting with the officials of the Forest Department in Chandigarh today. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary of the Department Mr. Anand Mohan Sharan, Principal Chief Forest Conservator and other senior officials.
Van Mitran will get timely compensation-
The Forest Minister clarified that there should be no delay in the compensation of Rs 15,000 per month to be given to Van Mitran and it should be released immediately.
In the meeting, the Minister was informed that under the Van Mitran scheme launched in the year 2024, 70,000 youth had registered on the portal and they dug more than two lakh pits, out of which 10 were planted in carts and after geo-tagging, 2598 youth were given Van Mitran status.
There should be a new system of verification-
The Minister directed that now instead of geo-tagging, DFOs, Conservators and Forest Guards will personally verify and monitor carts and plantation. This will enable proper evaluation of the work of the forest friends and their remuneration can be released in a transparent manner through DBT.
