Chandigarh, August 20 - In collaboration with Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency, subsidy is being provided to speed up the biogas utilization program in rural and urban areas in the state. Biogas is a clean, pollution-free, smokeless and affordable fuel, which is rich in 55 to 70 percent methane gas. This cow dung gas plant is produced from animal dung and organic matter.
A government spokesperson while giving information about this said that there are about 7.6 million livestock in Haryana, which has the capacity to produce about 3.8 million cubic meters of biogas daily, which can help in generating about 300 megawatts of electricity.
This gas can be purified and used as biogas. He said that the state government is providing additional assistance of up to 40 percent to encourage the establishment of biogas plants in institutional biogas programs, dairies and institutional units. So far, 114 plants have been installed in the state.
Under this scheme, a subsidy of Rs. 1 lakh 27 thousand to Rs. 3 lakh 95 thousand is being given for plants with a capacity of 25 to 85 cubic meters. Similarly, under the Biogas Power (Off Grid) Production Program, a subsidy of Rs. 15 thousand to Rs. 40 thousand per kilowatt is given by the central government on plants with a capacity of 3 kilowatt to 250 kilowatt using biogas produced from animal waste.
He said that the interested organization and individual will have to apply in the prescribed form in the Additional Deputy Commissioner's office of the concerned district. The plant will be set up by the beneficiary as per KVIC drawings. The project is required to be completed within six months. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, but priority will be given to cow shelters and religious institutions.
