Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 25: Punjab Industries, Commerce, Investment Promotion and Power Minister Sanjeev Arora today announced that the state will soon become the most suitable place for setting up industries in the country.
Talking to reporters in Mohali on Monday evening, he said that the state government is finalising a new private industrial park policy, which will be one of the most competitive frameworks to promote industrial growth and ease of doing business in India.
Arora said, “The industrial park policy will provide world-class infrastructure and facilities, thereby giving an enabling environment to industries, especially red category units, by giving them the option to shift to safer areas away from populated areas.”
Highlighting the success of the FastTrack Punjab portal (launched on June 10, 2025), the Minister said that 684 applications have already been processed well within the stipulated time frame of 45 days, while the remaining 747 out of the total 1,431 are under review and are expected to be approved soon. He added, “The portal, reflecting our government’s commitment to efficiency and transparency, ensures that industries face minimum delays.”
Arora informed that the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) has allocated Rs 100 crore for infrastructure upgradation in focal points. Tenders worth Rs 70 crore have already been floated, while the remaining Rs 30 crore are under process.
Focusing on the future prospects of Mohali, the Minister said that the Mann government aims to raise 'Brand Mohali' globally in the semiconductor sector, similar to the IT dominance of other states. He informed that Infosys has assured to start an AI-based project within three years, which will create 5,000 high-paying jobs in Mohali.
Besides, he revealed that exhibition-cum-convention centres will soon be set up in Mohali, Ludhiana and Amritsar to promote trade and showcase innovations. Land for the Mohali centre has already been identified, while locations are being sought for the other two cities.
Terming the one-time settlement scheme a big relief, Arora said that 40-year-old pending issues have been resolved. An appellate authority has been set up for rejected PSIE plots, and provisions have been introduced for clubbing/de-clubbing of industrial plots and conversion of leasehold to freehold to provide more flexibility to entrepreneurs.
The minister also informed that incentives worth Rs 222 crore have been disbursed in the last five months, as against Rs 90 crore given last year. He added that the new single-window portal now ensures industry approvals within 45 days, with some approvals even being issued on the third or fourth day.
Arora said, “Punjab is committed to creating a business-friendly ecosystem by supporting entrepreneurs and investors, creating jobs, attracting new industries and strengthening the state’s economy.”
Earlier, Minister Arora also chaired a detailed review meeting with officials of Industries, Labour, Power, GMADA, Municipal Corporation and other key departments to address the challenges faced in implementing the schemes and streamline coordination. GMADA apprised him of the contribution of 3.5 acres of land and Rs 50 crore to Powercom for setting up a new sub-station to address the power supply issues in Mohali. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce K.K. Yadav, Director Surbhi Malik, Punjab Development Commission Member Vaibhav Maheshwari, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, GMADA ACA Amarinder Singh Malhi and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
