Chandigarh March 22, 2024:- The Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev was solemnly observed in a joint effort by the Department of Education and the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology on 22nd March 2023. The highlight of the event was a lecture delivered by the resource persons, Prof. Chaman Lal and Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar, focusing on the theme "Shaheed Bhagat Singh: A thinker, scholar, and patriot."Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Education welcomed the guests.

He shared insights into Bhagat Singh's linguistic skills and his avid pursuit of knowledge, such as his endeavor to learn Persian during his final days. Prof. Lal's narrative also encompassed Bhagat Singh's indomitable spirit during his hunger strikes, spanning 110 days, illustrating his unwavering dedication to his principles. Furthermore, Prof. Lal talked about his seminal work, "The Political Writings of Bhagat Singh," symbolizing the scholarly endeavor to perpetuate Bhagat Singh's legacy, which he graciously presented to Prof. Paru Bal Sidhu, Chairperson of the Department of Ancient Indian History. Prof. Sukhmani Bal Riar provided profound insights into the historical and socio-cultural backdrop of Bhagat Singh's era, offering a meticulous analysis of the 1920s. She expounded upon the influence of movements such as the Arya Samaj on Bhagat Singh's ideological formation, drawing insightful parallels between Bhagat Singh's principles and those of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Riar's discourse underscored the enduring relevance of Bhagat Singh's ideology in shaping India's freedom struggle.Moreover, the event was enriched by a captivating skit performed by the talented students of M.Ed. and M.A. (Education), adding a creative dimension to the commemoration and engaging the audience in a poignant portrayal of Bhagat Singh's legacy and ideals.
