Moscow/Kyiv, April 20 - Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating a one-day Easter ceasefire called by President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is pretending to observe the Easter ceasefire but in fact Russia continued its attacks on Saturday night.
Russia carried out 46 attacks between midnight and 4 pm. He posted on X, saying, "Either Putin does not have full control over his army or the situation proves that he has no intention of taking any real steps towards ending the war in Russia and is only pretending."
On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine violated the ceasefire more than 1,000 times, damaging infrastructure and causing the deaths of some Russian citizens. Earlier, the Kremlin had shared that the ceasefire would be in effect from 6 pm Moscow time on Saturday (8:30 pm Indian time) until Easter Sunday (2:30 am Indian time) the next day.
Immediately after this, Ukraine's foreign minister said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of an Easter ceasefire could not be trusted. He said that Kiev still stands by its original agreement to observe the 30-day ceasefire.
