Chandigarh, March 5, - The Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Syukta) and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) have merged today in Punjab. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa holding a press conference with Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal at his residence in Chandigarh. In this, the merger of both the parties has been publicly announced.
According to the information received, Dhindsa has received approval from the leaders of the district unit of the party to rejoin the Akali Dal. While the five-member committee formed by him to advise on the merger is yet to submit its report. There had been talks between the two parties before, but that was part of the possibility of a re-alliance with the Akali Dal and the BJP
