Nawanshahr - Under the able guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, the new born "Dhiyan di Lohri" was celebrated today at District Hospital, Nawanshahr. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, District Health Officer Dr. Renu Agarwal and Senior Medical Officer of District Hospital, Nawanshahr Dr. Satwinderpal Singh honored 21 newborn girls with gifts. They shared happiness by lighting the lohri. All the staff distributed peanuts and gachak to each other and wished all the girls of the society a bright future.

On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur said that under the PC-P NDT Act, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, daughters' Lohri is being celebrated at the district level. So that awareness can be spread to further improve the gender ratio of girls in the state. Expressing his views on the respect of girls in the society, he said that every parent should give equal love and respect to their daughters as sons. They must be educated to stand on their own feet With which not only they can secure their future, but after marriage they can join hands with their husbands shoulder to shoulder in their in-laws house. He said that if the boy illuminates the name of one family, then the girls illuminate the name of two families. Because a girl has the ability to shine the name of her mother's family first and her father-in-law's family after marriage. He appealed to the parents of daughters to provide their daughters with full opportunities to show their talent. On this occasion, District Health Officer Dr. Renu Agarwal said that with such efforts of the health department in respect of daughters, the social evil of killing the daughter in the womb will definitely be stopped in the society. Social consciousness and commitment are needed to eradicate this social scourge.
On this occasion, Senior Medical Officer of District Hospital, Nawanshahr, Dr. Satwinderpal Singh said in his address that the main purpose of celebrating daughters' Lohri is to make people aware of the right of equality in society. He said that our daughters like India's champion players Shaina Nehwal, PV Sandhu, Boxer Mary Kom are making a valuable contribution in taking our society and country forward today. Finally the nursing faculty of Anta Gurseva College, Panama also presented a cultural gala. All the staff expressed their happiness by playing bhangra on lohri bali and drum sticks.
On this occasion, Block Extension Educator Vikas Virdi, Pharmacy Officer Paramveer Prince, Nursing Sister Satwinder Kaur, Pooja and all other officials and employees of Civil Surgeon Office were present on this occasion.
