Chandigarh December 26, 2023 - Chandigarh: A special lecture on "Ghalib and Us" was organized at the Department of Urdu, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Punjab Urdu Academy, Maler Kotla (Government of Punjab). Mr. Idris Ahmed, who did his Masters from the department in 1995, came. Appreciating the development of the department, Mr. Idris said that whatever success I have got today is the contribution of this department. This is what attracted me towards Ghalib and gave me the opportunity to know Ghalib. Talking about Mirza Ghalib, he said that intellectual dimensions and dimension as well as elegance and sophistication can be seen in Ghalib's poetry. In practical life, he was a happy person and was the one who forgot every sorrow and moved ahead. This is the reason why Altaf Hussain Hali has called him Haiwan-e-Zarif.
Professor Rehana Parveen said in her presidential address that Ghalib was adept at explaining even the most difficult subjects very simply and easily. Discussing Ghalib's biography further, he said that many plays and films have been made in India and Pakistan on the life of Mirza Ghalib, which gained immense popularity at the public level. These also include poems about higher intelligence and knowledge. Allama Iqbal who also wrote an immortal poem named 'Mirza Ghalib'.
Chairman of the Department, Dr. Ali Abbas welcomed both the guests and discussed in detail the research work of Ghalib experts for the awareness of the students. He said that many people have worked on Ghalib's life and his poetic and literary works and they have also examined Ghalib's life from various aspects, but due to Ghalib's universality, there are still many of his poems on which one can Definite opinion cannot be given. Rather, it will remain noteworthy in the times to come. While presenting Ghalib's poetry, he also said that Ghalib was a great poet, but he has also written some poetry which seems contrary to his temperament. It is also said about him that he did not give importance to anyone, although this is not the case rather he gave importance to knowledge and art.
It is known that the program was organized by Khaliqur Rahman, a research student of the department. At the beginning of the program, students of the department also presented Ghalib's poetry. In the end, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, teacher of the Persian department, thanked the participants and threw light on Ghalib's Persian poetry.
