Hoshiarpur, December 22 - Today, a case of 2 convicts committing suicide by hanging themselves has come to light in Hoshiarpur Central Jail. As soon as the information about the suicide committed by the prisoners in the jail was received, the senior police officers immediately arrived and started the investigation.
According to the information received, the deceased convicts have been identified as Titu son Mahendra, resident of Uttatti District Badayu (UP), Hal resident of village Mahna, District Hoshiarpur and Unkar Chand alias Kala son Gurpal Singh resident of Mohalla Sundar Nagar Hoshiarpur. A case was registered against Titu under Section 376, 363, 366A IPC and POSCO Act on 18 August 2023 in Sadar police station, while
A case was registered against Unkar Chand under 22-61-85 NDPS Act on September 2, 2023, for which both were in jail.
Giving information in this regard, Deputy Superintendent of Central Jail Hoshiarpur Amritpal Singh said that the said convicts committed suicide by hanging themselves in the bathroom inside the barracks at around 3 am. He said that Dr. Simar, the medical officer of the jail, declared him dead on the spot. Regarding the incident, police have taken action under Section 176 CrPC on the statements of the heirs.
The investigating officer said that both the convicts have committed suicide due to the cases registered against them. On the instructions of the Chief Judicial Magistrate for the post-mortem of the deceased, SMO Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur Dr. Swati formed a medical board of three doctors, which included Dr. Kajal, Dr. Rupinderjit Singh and Dr. Rajwant Kaur, who conducted the post-mortem of the deceased. After the postmortem, the police handed over the bodies to the heirs.
