Patiala, April 24 - As per the orders of Punjab Government and Commissioner Food and Drug and the guidelines of Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh, with the objective of providing clean food to the people and preventing food adulteration, the Food Safety Team, Patiala has conducted grocery shopping. , confectioners, bakeries, restaurants, dairies, met with the representatives of the associations and instructed them to pay special attention to expired products as well as to ensure good hygiene and sanitary practices.
  To designate a special area to hold expired items, give “Not for Sale” instructions to mark the area as expired items. Food Business Operators are also directed to follow good hygiene practices and good manufacturing practices with special attention on hygiene of food handlers. They are also instructed to procure good quality raw materials from approved vendors. On this occasion, giving information regarding the human case, the District Health Officer said that four samples of cake were taken from the concerned bakery, the report of which has been received.
Out of these samples, two samples were found to be good and two samples were found to be sub-standard due to high amount of saccharin. Saccharin is an edible substance. He said that further legal action has been initiated regarding the samples found to be sub-standard.
