BIS and PEC Join Hands to Promote Standardization Awareness among Faculty

Chandigarh: 07th August, 2025: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organized a Faculty Sensitization Programme (Workshop) under its Education Outreach Program. The workshop aimed to sensitize PEC faculty members about the critical role of standardization and its integration into Curriculum Development and Research Initiatives.

Chandigarh: 07th August, 2025: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organized a Faculty Sensitization Programme (Workshop) under its Education Outreach Program. The workshop aimed to sensitize PEC faculty members about the critical role of standardization and its integration into Curriculum Development and Research Initiatives.
This occasion was graced by Sh. Vishal Tomer, Director & Head, BIS Chandigarh Branch Office; along with esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia; Prof. Umesh Sharma, Dean, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy (SRIC); Dr. Manohar Singh, Associate Dean, SRIC; Sh. Vichitra Vir Singh, Joint Director, BIS HQ Delhi; and Sh. Shubham Tiwari, Joint Director, BIS HQ Delhi.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Umesh Sharma, who expressed his appreciation for the BIS team and highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between BIS and PEC. He emphasized how this MoU has fostered a robust industry-academia partnership, and noted that the BIS (ISI) mark is a key indicator of quality that consumers instinctively look for when purchasing products. 
He remarked that the workshop would open new avenues of knowledge for PEC faculty and contribute to the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence.
Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, underscored the importance of organizing such initiatives to broaden faculty perspectives on standardization and its national ecosystem. He also briefly reflected on the rich legacy of PEC and its commitment to embracing academic and industrial innovations. The workshop witnessed active participation from 60+ faculty members across various departments of the institute.
Sh. Vishal Tomer engaged the audience through an interactive session on the concept, significance, and real-world applications of standardization. His insightful discussion encouraged faculty interaction and created a lively and informative environment.
This was followed by an engaging presentation by Sh. Shubham Tiwari and Sh. Kushagra Jindal, who provided a comprehensive overview of BIS and the standardization ecosystem in India. They elaborated on the objectives, scope, and impact of the Education Outreach Program. 
Sh. Abhishek Kumar showcased the digital initiatives undertaken by BIS, emphasizing technology's role in expanding access to standardization tools and resources.
 Sh. Ashutosh Rai highlighted the structure of standards, their formulation process, and the relevance of departmental and product-specific standards. The importance of research projects in the development of standards was also discussed in depth.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Manohar Singh, who expressed gratitude to the BIS team and faculty participants for making the workshop a meaningful and impactful event.
