The 2018 edition in Jakarta surpassed the 70 medal tally won. This time India started the campaign with the dream of winning 100 medals and has created history by crossing the hundred mark. The Asian Games is a competition with which India has a rich history. It was in Delhi, the capital of India, that the first edition of the Games was held in 1951. The country once again hosted the grand multi-sport Games in 1982. India has made such progress in the world of sports over the last few years that in the last few editions, they have seen an increase in the number of medals they have won. The Hangzhou edition is the third time India has crossed the 60-medal mark after Guangzhou in 2010 and Jakarta in 2018.
In the Asian Games, India won 12 more medals, including six golds, the total number of medals has reached 107 so far.
After winning 51 medals in the first Games in 1951, India failed to cross the 20 medal mark in the next seven editions, but reached 57 medals in the 1982 edition after the games returned to Delhi. The 2006 edition in Doha was the first time that India won more than 50 medals in an edition that was not held in India.
