Water level in Pong Dam increased due to excess rain in some parts of Himachal Pradesh.

Chandigarh:- The water level in Pong Dam built on the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh has now increased by two feet after remaining a few inches above the prescribed limit.

According to the data released by the Bhakra Beas Management Board, the water level at Pong Dam was recorded at 1392.48 feet on Monday morning, while the upper limit is 1390 feet.
In this, the inflow of water into the reservoir was 64,964 cusecs and the outflow was 49,899 cusecs. This year, the Pong Dam saw a water flow into its reservoir during August-September, which went up to 2.25 lakh cusecs, due to which a discharge of 1 lakh cusecs was maintained for several days to remove excess water. Rain is being said to be the reason for the increase in water level in some parts of the dam's catchment area.
After emerging near Rohtang Pass in Himachal, the Beas flows through Kullu, Mandi and Kangra districts before entering Punjab. According to the India Meteorological Department, Mandi has received 566 per cent more rainfall and Kangra 207 per cent more rainfall in the last 24 hours. However, Kullu has been deficient by 36 per cent during this period.
The water level in the Bhakra Dam, which is located on the Sutlej river in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, was 1676.16 feet on Monday morning, which is about four feet below the upper limit. According to the Bhakra Beas Management Board, the inflow of water into the reservoir was 40,999 and the outflow was 55,000 cusecs.
The Meteorological Department has predicted scattered rainfall in various areas across Himachal Pradesh till September 21. There is a possibility of widespread rain and thunderstorms on September 16, for which a yellow alert has been issued.
