New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed 16 cases against 70 Indian nationals for hosting foreign attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. “The charge sheets stand quashed,” Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said while pronouncing the verdict.
The court pronounced its verdict on 16 petitions related to 70 Indians, represented by advocate Ashima Mandla. A detailed verdict in this regard is awaited.
The Delhi Police had opposed the pleas seeking quashing of the FIRs registered in March 2020 for hosting foreign attendees, saying that the accused local residents had sheltered the attendees who had come to the Nizamuddin Markaz in violation of the movement ban orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
