Patna- Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced 125 units of free electricity to all domestic consumers in the state in a public-pleasing decision before the upcoming assembly elections. Kumar announced in a post on X that this decision will benefit 1.67 crore households in the state. He said that the benefit of free electricity will start from August 1.

The Chief Minister said, “This means that no charge will be made for 125 units in the bills of July.” The Chief Minister claimed that “his government is already providing cheap electricity to all consumers.”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced the free electricity at a time when his opponent and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has announced to provide ‘200 units of free electricity’ to the people of Bihar as an election promise in view of the upcoming elections.
Chief Minister and JDU supremo Nitish Kumar also strongly advocated for promoting solar energy in Bihar in a social media post. Kumar said that an estimated 10,000 MW of electricity will be generated in the state through alternative sources of energy in the next three years. Kumar spoke about the ‘Kuttir Jyoti Yojana’, a fully state-funded scheme that includes installing solar panels in public places as well as on the roofs of the houses of poor people with their consent.
