Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that due to the efforts of Lok Sabha Member from Hoshiarpur Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Jai Krishan Singh Raudi, the Punjab Government has sent a proposal to the Central Government to declare Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuha road as National Highway.
The traffic pressure on this route is very high and is used regularly by industrial units, transporters and travellers. However, problems like traffic jams, accidents and traffic delays arise due to the limited width of the road.
The letter from the Punjab Government mentioned that if this route is given the status of National Highway and widened, it will not only enhance traffic safety but will also benefit trade, industry and movement of people. This route is also strategically important as it connects northern Punjab with major industrial centers and will also facilitate inter-state connectivity.
The letter said that as per the report received from the field office, the current daily traffic figure on this route is 23,198 PCU (passenger car unit), which is eligible for four-lane as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. He informed that the total length of the road is 104.96 km, in which the width of the carriageway is 10 meters. The Deputy Commissioner said that in this context, a request was also made by him to declare the said route as a National Highway through a letter dated March 19, 2025.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that in view of the strategic importance of the route and the current needs, it has been recommended to declare this road as a National Highway soon so that the process of its development can be started soon.
