Deputy Commissioner visits embankment of Sutlej river

Nawanshahr, June 20- In view of the rainy season, Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh today visited various areas along the Sutlej river and took stock of the flood control works and directed the officials of the concerned departments to expedite these works.

On the occasion of inspection of the embankment of Sutlej river, Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh told the officials that cleaning works near the river and embankment should be done on priority basis so that no problem is faced during the rainy season.
While reviewing the work of stones placed in the net around the embankment in Tajowal and Lalewal complex, the elders of the village told the Deputy Commissioner that the completion of this work has given new strength to the embankment. He said that these areas have been flooded earlier also, but currently placing stones on the embankment will prevent floods.
The Deputy Commissioner, while interacting with the people in the Phambar area, directed the officials to clean the drain completely. He directed to remove reeds, bushes, nets from Rahon drain in village Shahbazpur and complete the cleaning work soon. While talking to the villagers at these places, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration is committed to complete every important work on time keeping in mind the weather in the coming time.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the present condition of drains in villages Burj, Pathlawa, Sona and Barnala Kalan and gave necessary instructions to the officers. Senior officers of the civil administration were present on this occasion.
