Chandigarh, June 15 - Under the leadership of Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Kumari Aarti Singh Rao, the Health Department has achieved remarkable achievements in the field of maternal health. According to the latest Sample Registration System Special Bulletin on Maternal Mortality Rate in India, the maternal mortality rate in the state has come down from 106 to 89, which is a remarkable improvement of 17 points.
The Health Minister said that this achievement reflects the continuous efforts of the state government to strengthen maternal health services. The decline in maternal mortality rate means that the lives of about 300 more mothers were saved during this period due to the concerted efforts of dedicated medical and health workers across the state.
The Health Department is committed to further reducing the maternal mortality rate with the ultimate goal of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of less than 70 maternal mortality rates per 100,000 live births. All government delivery centres have been renovated and are now fully equipped with essential medicines, equipment and supplies to ensure a safe and dignified delivery experience.
In addition, systematic identification and management of high-risk pregnancies is being done through the HRP guidance note. Safe Motherhood Month, a monthly campaign is being run to screen and support high-risk pregnancies to improve timely detection and intervention.
Dr. R.S. Dhillon said that institutional deliveries in the state have reached 98.3 percent in 2024-25 indicating improved civil trust in government health services and widespread access to safe delivery.
In addition, centrally sponsored schemes like Janani Navjat Suraksha Programme and Janani Suraksha Yojana are being implemented effectively. These programmes ensure that pregnant women using civil health facilities get free medicines, food, blood transfusion and referral transport.
This initiative eliminates out-of-pocket expenditure and increases access to healthcare for all. He said that the Health Department of Haryana is committed to improving maternal health outcomes.
