New Delhi, June 13- The Supreme Court has sought Karnataka government's response on a plea seeking protection against alleged threats against the screening of actor Kamal Haasan's film 'Thug Life' in cinema halls in Karnataka.
A bench of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Manmohan of the Supreme Court has issued notice on M Mahesh Reddy's plea challenging the ban on the screening of the Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The matter will be heard next Tuesday.
Reddy has said in his plea that despite getting a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, the Karnataka government has stopped the film from being shown in cinema halls through police intervention and verbal instructions.
Reddy's lawyer A. Velan argued that such activities are a violation of the right to freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution.
