Garhshankar, June 5: Not keeping the summer holidays limited to just rest and fun, Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has started an inspiring and social initiative. She has invited students of all government, private and aided schools in the district to become 'changemakers'. Under this campaign, apart from the traditional holiday homework, students have also been given a special task to bring positive change in the society.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, while congratulating the children on the summer holidays, said that every child eagerly plans for the holidays, but if we can bring about any good change in ourselves and our society during these holidays, then its impact will last a lifetime. She said that the purpose of education is not only bookish knowledge, but also to become a responsible citizen.
Under this unique holiday work, children have been encouraged to perform small social responsibilities in their surrounding area, neighborhood, street or village. These include running a cleanliness drive, helping the disabled, saving water and electricity, planting and taking care of trees, or other public welfare work.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the students to make a short video of themselves doing these works and send it to the WhatsApp number 73800-90643 of the district administration or to the Facebook page ‘Chadda Suraj’ by June 30. These videos will not only showcase their hard work but will also serve as an inspiration to other children.
To make this innovative initiative more effective, the Deputy Commissioner has also announced that the students who have done excellent work will be felicitated at a district level function along with their teachers and parents. This honour will not only appreciate the hard work of the children but will also motivate them to be socially active in the future.
Ashika Jain said that this initiative is an attempt to motivate the students towards social service instead of keeping them confined to education. This programme will not only enhance the personality of the children but will also make them realize their social responsibility. Thus, this initiative can prove to be an important step towards making the holidays meaningful and developing a sense of change in the children.
