Kota, May 4 - A student preparing for NEET in Parshavnath area here committed suicide by hanging herself with an iron grill in her room. The student took this extreme step a day before the National Medical Entrance Examination to be held today (Sunday).
Circle Inspector Arvind Bhardwaj of Kunhari Police Station, while refusing to reveal the identity of the student, told this news agency that the girl was below 18 years of age and was a resident of Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh. She had been living with her parents in Kota for the past several years and was preparing for NEET-UG in a coaching institute.
The student was to appear for the NEET-UG exam which will be held today in various centers across the country. The girl hanged herself with an iron grill in her room on Saturday evening. The family members were at home at the time of the incident and they came to know about the death of their daughter around 9 pm. No suicide note was recovered from her room. The body has been sent for postmortem.
It is worth mentioning that this is the 14th case of suicide by a student taking coaching in Kota since January this year. Last year, a total of 17 cases of suicide by coaching students were reported in Kota.
