Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, May 1: Today, various senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party strongly protested against the decision of the Central Government to forcibly release additional water from Bhakra Dam to Haryana. President of District Planning Committee Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and President of District Unit Prabhjot Kaur said here today that the Central Government is doing injustice to Punjab and the Punjab Government will not let even a drop of Punjab's water go waste. She made it clear that the Bhagwant Singh Mann government of Punjab will not allow any kind of loot of Punjab's water.
She said that when Haryana has exhausted its quota from 21st May to 20th May by 31st March, on that occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann had been providing additional water to 4 thousand kiosks per day continuously from 6th April on the request of the Chief Minister of Haryana on humanitarian grounds.
But now when Haryana is also demanding water for its irrigation needs, the supply of 8500 kiosks per day by BBMB is a complete blow to the interests of Punjab. He said that the water in all the three dams of Punjab is less than the required level, so additional water cannot be provided. On this occasion, Chairman of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Sunny Singh Ahluwalia said that giving additional water to Haryana would be a complete blow to the farmers of Punjab. He said that when the Secretary of Water Resources Department Krishna Kumar has already said in the meeting on April 23 that we do not have additional water, then such a blow by the Central Government is not justified in any way. He said that when the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann took power in Punjab, at that time only 17 percent water was given through canals, but now 78 percent water is being given for irrigation through canals. In such a situation, when the use of water for irrigation has increased in Punjab, then giving water to other states, that too forcibly, then the Punjab Government and Aam Aadmi Party will stand firmly with the farmers of Punjab against any such push.
He said that at this critical juncture, the Chief Minister of Punjab himself leading the Punjabis strongly is proof that the Punjab Government will not tolerate any kind of forcefulness on the issue of water. On this occasion, Chairman of Market Committee Mohali Gobind Mittal and local leadership of Aam Aadmi Party were also present.
