Muktsar, April 25 - Farmers are not only worried about the wheat standing in the fields but also about the wheat lying in the market. Recently, two fire incidents were reported in Muktsar grain market within three days. However, due to the prompt action of the firefighter teams, major damage was prevented in both the cases.
Meanwhile, the continuous incidents have increased the concerns of the farmers who have already started bringing their crops. According to Fire Officer Jaswinder Singh, who was involved in the rescue operation, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known and there were no electric wires near the wheat sacks. Wheat stored in hundreds of sacks was damaged in the incident that happened yesterday.
Meanwhile, the local grain market workers' union has accused the transport contractor of irregularities in the deployment of vehicles. In this regard, the civil administration started physical verification of transport vehicles on Thursday based on the registration numbers given by the contractor. Market Committee Muktsar Chairman Surjit Singh confirmed that the verification process started on Thursday. The farmers concerned about the incidents are appealing to the authorities to enhance security measures and smoothen traffic to prevent further incidents.
