SAS Nagar, April 23 - Technical Services Union Regd. Nagar, April 23 () - Technical Services Union Regd. Circle Mohali, Pensioners Association Circle Mohali and CHB employees held a convention against privatisation here, in which it was announced that a tough struggle will be waged against privatisation.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurbaksh Singh, President TSU Circle Mohali, Chief Advisor Lakha Singh, Gurmeet Singh, President Powercom & Transco Contract Employees Union Circle Mohali, Vijay Kumar, President Pensioners Union and other leaders said that the preparation to hand over the reins of two divisions of the Electricity Corporation, Kharar and Lalru, to private hands is another step towards privatisation of the power sector.
The leaders said that on the recommendation of the PDC (Punjab Development Commission), the officials of the Electricity Corporation had to present the figures of privatization of Kharar and Lalru divisions of the state in the meeting on April 21 and on that day the electricity workers of entire Punjab opposed it and warned the government that privatization will not be accepted under any circumstances. As a result, the management had to cancel the meeting.
The leaders said that after privatizing the Chandigarh Electricity Board, the company is harassing the regular employees, pensioners and outsourced employees there. Their previous services have been canceled and they have been kept on a probation period of one year. Preparations are being made to remove the outsourced employees and it has not been decided yet who will give pension to the pensioners. Therefore, everyone should strongly oppose it and should not accept privatization under any circumstances.
