
Snowfall in Kargil; Schools closed for three days.
Kargil, April 20 - Normal life in Kargil was affected for the second consecutive day today due to snowfall in Ladakh and adjoining areas. Authorities have announced that all schools will remain closed for the next three days due to bad weather. They said that Kargil recorded about six inches of snowfall while Khangral and nearby areas received up to two feet of snow.

In view of the heavy snowfall, Chairman-cum-Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Mohammad Jafar Akhun today chaired a high-level review meeting to review the snow removal operations and restoration of essential services across the district.
He directed the officials to mobilize all departments, especially those of horticulture, forest, irrigation and water supply sectors, for damage assessment. The official said that all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Drass, Sanku, Shakar Chiktan and Zanskar have been asked to remain vigilant in their respective jurisdictions and ensure availability of basic amenities like electricity, healthcare and water and redressal of public grievances. He issued special guidelines for the convenience of tourists stranded in the water. He asked the officers to go to their respective areas and resolve the problems of the people.
