Addressing the college volunteers, S. Chaman Singh (Project Director, IRCA Nawanshahr) said that the National Service Scheme (NSS) provides an opportunity to the student youth to participate in various community service activities and programmes led by the government. Its main objective is to develop the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service.
The youth understand the various evils and practices going on in the society. Prominent among these is addiction or drug abuse. He gave information about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and said that we all have to work together to make India drug free. He said that today the life of youth is under a lot of stress and peer pressure, due to which they are getting addicted to drugs.
Drug addicts often face various problems, including academic difficulties, health problems (including mental health), poor relationships with peers, etc. Apart from this, it has consequences for family members, community and the entire society.
If you have some problems, you should talk to your elders, teachers, parents or seek professional help for your problems. He said that drug addiction is a sign, a mark, a symptom of distress. It is a language that tells us about a plight which is important to understand.
