It is worth mentioning here that due to drugs and unemployment, the hands of the robbers have become so strong that they do not look back before using sharp weapons. Some become disabled forever, some leave this world, their earning son passes away. The robbers do not care about anyone, they only have to survive by looting and selling drugs.
One such case came to light on 17 February 2025, when a robbery took place at a petrol pump in village Sahlan. According to the pump owner Kaljinder Singh, he had closed the petrol pump at around 8:30 pm that night and had gone to his office to settle the accounts. After some time two young men entered his office with a broom and started attacking him indiscriminately. Due to which one of his employees was seriously injured. He was admitted to Civil Hospital Nawanshahr for treatment, where he was referred to PGI Chandigarh due to serious injuries.
According to Kaljinder Singh, he too had sustained injuries. When the robbers were continuously attacking him with a broom, he had said, "Do you want anything from them?" When the robbers asked for money, he handed over his purse with the pump's entire day's earnings to the robbers and the robbers managed to escape with their third accomplice standing outside on the road. The pump owner had given full information of the incident to the police station in-charge and the police had visited the spot, investigated the matter and registered a case, but the alleged criminals of the case are still playing hide and seek with the police.
The police is trying its best but the criminals have not been able to leave any clue, while the district police officials claim that they are about to reach the criminals, but such police is lost in the thought that what should they do? The matter of robbers has become the backbone of such police at this time. Only time will tell how such police will deal with this matter.
IFTU President Kalwinder Singh Waraich and Kirti Kisan Union District President Surinder Singh Bains say that the police needs to be alert in every way at this time for the safety of the people. Protecting the people is the primary responsibility of the police. The police administration can be considered smart and efficient only when the common people are safe.
