Desh Bhagat University's gatka workshop students showed enthusiasm

Mandi Gobindgarh, May 22 - Desh Bhagat University in collaboration with Punjab Gatka Association organized a seven-day Gatka workshop at DBU campus. More than 400 students enthusiastically participated in this workshop aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage of Punjab. The workshop provided an opportunity for students to learn the basic skills of Gatke, a traditional Indian martial art, and understand its origins and evolution in Punjab, India and globally.

Mandi Gobindgarh, May 22 - Desh Bhagat University in collaboration with Punjab Gatka Association organized a seven-day Gatka workshop at DBU campus. More than 400 students enthusiastically participated in this workshop aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage of Punjab. The workshop provided an opportunity for students to learn the basic skills of Gatke, a traditional Indian martial art, and understand its origins and evolution in Punjab, India and globally. 
The workshop was inaugurated by Chancellor's Advisor Dr Virinder Singh and he emphasized the importance of Gatke in Indian martial art and its historical identity. Dr. Singh gave an impressive insight into the rich background of martial arts about Punjab and Indian history.
The closing ceremony was presided over by DBU Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur served as Chief Guest and Special Guest respectively. He felicitated the trainees and awarded certificates to the contestants from the Punjab Gatka Association. Dr Tajinder Kaur especially appreciated the participation of girl students and encouraged them to join Gatka and other sports activities in the university.
Sports Director Dr Praveen Kumar thanked the Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, trainers and participants. He congratulated the faculty of Physical Education and Sports Department for the success of this event.
