
The district received the Best Performing District award for curbing drug abuse among children

In which more and more activities were designed to prevent drug abuse among children Due to which district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) was declared the best performing district.

SDM Nawanshahr Akshita Gupta, Assistant Commissioner General Gurleen Kaur and District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora by State Home Minister Mr. Nithyanand Roy Ji and Chairperson of National Child Rights Commission New Delhi Mr. Priyank Kanungo during a function held at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi on June 30. Awarded the Best Performing Award for District New City. A national level review and consultation was held to implement the "Joint Plan of Action on Prevention of Drug and Narcotic Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration.
Giving information in this regard, Mr. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar expressed his happiness and said that the above joint action plan is being implemented in the district for the last three years and to implement this action plan. Education Department, Health Department, Child Protection Department, Excise Department, Child Welfare Committee, District Drug Control Authority as well as Police Department have contributed. And in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, maximum activities have been drawn up to prevent and abuse of drugs among children due to which district Nawan Shahr has been declared as the best performing district.
It is worth mentioning here that the District Magistrate has ordered all the medical/pharmacy shops in the district under Section 133 of CrPC not to sell medicines under Schedule XH and H1 to children below 18 years of age. And CCTV cameras should be installed in all medical/pharmacy shops, following which CCTV cameras have been installed in around 195 shops in the district and more than 498 shops have been inspected.
In the education department, 106 Prahari clubs have been formed in secondary schools which conducts various activities (like painting competitions, song competitions, elocution competitions and rallies) to keep children away from drugs. With which children are made aware about the side effects of drugs and staying away from drugs During the last two years, 2544 activities have been conducted in schools by these police clubs and about 32 training programs have been conducted by the police department. In the last two years, 183 awareness programs have been conducted by the District Child Protection Department to ensure the safety of children and to keep children away from drug abuse while implementing the above action plan. And the Child Protection Committees formed at the village and block level have also been given corner dramas to prevent drug abuse among children.
Along with this, 150 awareness camps have been organized by the District Social Security Office so that maximum number of people can be made aware in this regard. There is no sale of drugs or alcohol within 100 meters of all government schools under the district.
