
Panjab University Alumni Association Hosts Scholarship Award Function
Chandigarh, 18 February 2025- The Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA) today organised its annual Scholarship Award Function at the Principal P.L. Anand Auditorium (Evening Auditorium), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, 18 February 2025- The Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA) today organised its annual Scholarship Award Function at the Principal P.L. Anand Auditorium (Evening Auditorium), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and PU Alumna Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.), graced the event as the Chief Guest. The event recognised and celebrated the academic achievements of 164 meritorious students from the 2020-21 batch, who hail from various Panjab University departments and affiliated colleges.
Earlier, PU Vice-Chancellor and PUAA President, Prof. Renu Vig, welcomed the invited guests at the PU campus on their arrival. While congratulating the achievers, Prof Vig said, “Panjab University takes immense pride in honouring its talented students. These scholarships and stipends are a testament to their dedication and hard work.”
The scholarships awarded during the function were aimed at honouring the students' excellence in academics and supporting their ongoing educational journeys. Additionally, PUAA presented stipends to 19 students selected by different departments and B.Ed. colleges on a need-cum-merit basis. These stipends were made possible through the generous contributions of Panjab University alumni, who have donated in memory of their loved ones.
Speaking to the students, Dr. Bedi emphasised the privilege of being part of Panjab University, noting, "Kismet wale ho, do you realise how fortunate you are to be a student of PU? Whatever I have achieved, it's because of this university, its education, and its teachers." She further encouraged the students to cherish their time at university, highlighting the importance of hard work and lifelong friendships.
Dr. Bedi also shared valuable insights on leadership, urging the students to remember that true leadership is grounded in responsibility as citizens and students.
Earlier, PU Vice Chancellor and PUAA President Prof. Renu Vig welcomed the invited guests at the PU Campus. She also congratulated the achievers and who received scholarships and stipends.
The event also witnessed the release of the Punjabi-translated edition of Dr. Kiran Bedi’s celebrated book Fearless Governance, titled Nidar Prashasan. The translation was done by Sh. Arvind Chhabra, Senior Journalist at the BBC World Service and a proud alumnus of Panjab University. Sh. Sanjay Kundu, IPS (Retd.), Former DGP of Himachal Pradesh, joined the event as the Guest of Honour and introduced the book to the audience. PU DUI Prof. Rumina Sethi also addressed the gathering and highlighted the contribution of the University.
