Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, November 28: Chief Agricultural Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Dr. Gurmail Singh, under the leadership of the agricultural officers in various villages of block Kharar, after receiving information regarding the attack of pink stem borer in wheat sowing fields, is continuously inspecting.
Agriculture Officer Kharar Shubhkaran Singh Dhaliwal, ADO Mandeep Kaur, AEO Ajay Sharma and Karanvir Singh Mahal conducted a survey in villages Nadiali, Alipur, Popna, Dhadak Kalan and Deh Kalan, during which the attack of this insect was not seen anywhere.
He said that the pink bollworm and the soldier bollworm are not the main pests of the wheat crop, but due to sowing techniques and climatic changes, these pests sometimes attack the wheat crop in some fields, especially if it is ploughed with Happy Seeder, Super Seeder or mulching method.
The pink bollworm of the stem makes a hole in the stem above the root of the wheat and eats the inner sap, due to which the plants turn yellow and the attacked plants or branches dry up. The possibility of its attack is more in fields with early barrenness because the movement of this pest decreases with the decrease in temperature.
If the attack of the pink bollworm is seen more, then mix 7 kg of fipronil 0.3% or one liter of chlorpyrifos 20 EC in 20 kg of soil and sprinkle it before the first watering and watering should be preferred during the day. If infestation is observed in the fields after irrigation, spraying 50 ml of chlortraniliprole dissolved in 80 to 100 liters of water will prevent it.
