Hoshiarpur: Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh administered the oath of office to 9314 Panches and Sarpanches of 1403 Panchayats of the district here today; said that along with the development of villages, the Panchayats should also come forward and play an active role in eradicating social evils.

During the oath-taking ceremony held at the local Lajwanti Stadium, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said that 273 Panchayats have been elected unanimously in the district, which shows mutual brotherhood in the villages. He said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to further strengthen the Panchayats and there will be no shortage of funds for development works.
He called upon the newly elected Panches and Sarpanches to take steps to change the face of the villages by fulfilling the responsibility placed on their shoulders by the people with full dedication and commitment. He appealed to the Panchayat representatives to join hands for the development works of their respective villages from now on so that the benefits of the welfare schemes and development works run by the government can reach the people as soon as possible. He said that the Panchayats should establish timely coordination with the concerned departments and implement the necessary development works.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Raudi congratulated the newly elected Sarpanches/Panches and appealed that Panchayats can play an important role in completely eradicating social ills in the villages. He said that the Punjab Government is committed to eradicating social evils like drugs along with achieving record development in the state. He said that the Punjab Government will ensure all possible help and cooperation to the Panchayats so that the villages can develop all round.
Lok Sabha Member Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal urged the Panchayats to strengthen mutual understanding in the villages and ensure development from all aspects without any discrimination. He said that along with connecting the youth with sports, mobilizing against drugs is the main demand of the time for which everyone should contribute their due. He said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is always ready for the all-round development of the villages and there will be no dearth of funds for this purpose. He said that the Panchayats are an important link between the government and the villages and their role in development works cannot be ignored.
Welcoming the personalities and Panches/Sarpanches, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that the district administration will provide all possible support to the Panchayats so that the pace of development works can be further accelerated. . He said that the residents of the district deserve congratulations for holding the Panchayat elections in complete peace and harmony in the district.
