Hoshiarpur: Retired Civil Surgeon Dr. Preet Mahinder Singh and Dr. Navjot Kaur, State Award Winner Bhai Barinder Singh Masiti in charge of Eye Donor at XCMS motivated people to donate eyes at Amrit Hospital Tanda today. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Preet Mahinder Singh said that every person should donate eyes after death. Which is also the demand of the present time.
He said that this is a priceless treasure given to man by God. Which is destroyed by offering fire. He said that with these two eyes, light can be brought to the eyes of two blind people. He further told people about the process of eye donation and said that you must have heard people talking about 'eye donation'. But the whole eyes are never transplanted. Eye donation involves only your cornea, not your entire eye. Healthy cornea obtained from the donor is used to replace the damaged cornea through corneal transplantation.
Dr. Navjot Kaur said that at present the eyes of a person who dies of HIV (AIDS), active viral hepatitis, brain swelling, eye cancer, septicemia, cancer cannot be donated.
On this occasion, Bhai Masiti gave information and said that after the death of any eye donor, the fan/air conditioner should be turned off immediately to prevent the eyes from drying. Keep the donor's eyelids closed and keep a towel on the eyes. Keep a pillow under the donor's head so that his head can be raised a little. Immediately inform the eye donation organization or eye bank. Because the eyes of the dead person can be taken within four to six hours of death.
